I've seen dungeon groups using this to vote to kick whoever has the lowest DPS in the group, whether the group is doing just fine (and often as a justification to bring in one of the other group member's buddies who wanted to join the group in progress). However, be careful about weaponizing damage meters. Be kind to your raid healers and keep the healing load where it belongs.
By knowing when to back off or use threat mitigation abilities, you can keep the aggro where it belongs. This can be important for DPS players to monitor because you can easily end up dead by pulling aggro off the tank. In addition, Details! has a number of small, helpful modules, from historical details to a threat meter that tells you how much threat everyone in your raid has on a current target. Learning what affects your DPS positively helps your entire raid team. Successful raiding is fundamentally a DPS check a raid that can't get bosses down quickly will wipe from the healers getting worn down and not being able to keep the tanks upright. This isn't just for personal bragging rights.

From learning not to "stand in it" to being aware of when to run, turn around, get out of the fire or brace for impact, either of these required mods will be, quite literally, a lifesaver. If it isn't required by your raid team, it's because they run the near competitor, Bigwigs Bossmods, which has very similar functionality. It offers a variety of warnings about boss attacks, hazards, timers - no wonder it's always in the top 5 of downloaded mods for the entire game. This addon will be very familiar to raiders and dungeoneers coming from Retail.
These are the indispensable raiding addons - the ones that are almost certainly required by most raiding groups unless they're going to a no-addons playstyle (and I do know of a few purist groups who insist on this model). In the spirit of recognizing that everyone has a different view of the "Classic experience", I have reviewed mods ranging from small, incremental improvements on the native classic UI all the way up to advanced raiding management. Personally, I have used mods right from the beginning when I started playing a few months after launch, and remember how many of the mods were even more automated than they are today! That's a question that I leave up to you. Mods have been around since the beginning of WoW, but there is no doubt that there is a great philosophical debate about whether using some of these mods breaks the "Classic experience". This is my opinion about what I found to be the best addons for helping you make the most out of your raiding experience in Classic, whether you're new to raiding or a seasoned campaigner (though most seasoned raiders likely already have most of these installed).
